📖 "And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him."
Scripture Reading
Matthew 4:19-22
Verse 19: And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Verse 20: And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
Verse 21: And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship 🚢 with Zebedee their father, mending their nets 🥅; and he called them.
Verse 22: And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
Introduction
Discipleship begins when you get born again. As a follower of Jesus Christ you take Him as your Teacher and Model and strive to be like Him. Matthew 11:29; Romans 8:29.
The Character Traits of a Disciple
- 1Hearing the Master and following Him. John 10:27.
- 2Willing to forsake anything in order to follow the Master. Matthew 4:19, 22.
- 3Always available. Acts 9:10.
- 4Obedient. Acts 9:10.
- 5Holy conversation and living. 1 Peter 1:15-16.
- 6Humility. 1 Peter 5:6.
Capability of a Disciple
- 1He is able to personally hear from God. Acts 9:10.
- 2Win souls for Christ.
- 3Preach with results. Acts 2:40-41.
- 4Perform miracles. Acts 8:5-8.
- 5Disciple and train new young converts. Romans 10:1-4.
- 6Grow and become fruitful.
- 7Pray and be transformed in character, conduct and live like his Master. e.g. Paul. Romans 7:15-25.
